Description
Our first encounter with a free lion. It is nothing short of astounding.
This one was lying around with his three male companions who share several groups of females (that were nowhere to be seen).
Estamates vary, but the African lion population has plummeted from 200,000-400,000 in the 1950s to as few as 20,000 today. There are multiple reasons for this, among others habitat loss, disease, human-animal conflict etc., but, to me at least, it seems that no matter how you spin it, trophy hunting cannot possibly be part of animal conservation. Unfortunately, this habit is still legal in a number of African countries, but Botswana is one of the very few countries that have banned killing animals for sports.

First I gave you a five for vision. I am a photographer for nature. The picture is centered and he is the focus of your vision.
Second I gave you a five for originality. If you took this first hand, it is an original. The fact that you were there and taking the photographs makes your originality a 5.
Third I gave you a five on Technique. There are times that pictures come out great, then there are times your experience yields excellence. You captured that moment in time.
Finally, I gave you a five for Impact. The first thing I see is the Lion. The second thing I saw was his teeth, and tongue. Next was the mass of body in a killing machine. While this is a younger male lion, it is none the less an excellent shot. Congratulations, this is the first time I have ever given someone all 5's. I think that this deserves such quality markings.
